Why hire us?

Our workshops are meticulously crafted to cater to the unique needs of each cohort. At the core of our approach is a commitment to holistic and equitable education, encompassing lectures, curriculum, and projects. Recognizing that individuals from underserved communities require tailored support, we reject the notion of a one-size-fits-all model. Drawing from our own experiences as youth navigating the social mobility challenges of the San Francisco Bay Area during the tech boom, our team is dedicated to meeting participants where they are and empowering them to thrive

Drivers of Inequity

“A variety of historical and contemporary factors cause Black, Native American, Latinx, and other workers of color to experience unemployment at much higher rates than White workers. Employer discrimination against Black workers has not improved in 25 years: among workers with the same resumes, White applicants receive 36 percent more callbacks than Black applicants and 24 percent more callbacks than Latinx people. In addition, racial segregation and disinvestment mean that students of color have far less access to well-resourced, high-quality schools. Transportation challenges, lack of affordable childcare and housing near job centers, and structural racism in employer hiring practices are also significant barriers to employment. Finally, overpolicing and systemic inequities in the criminal-legal system disproportionately impact Black and Latinx men, who then face employer discrimination due to their criminal records.” -Bay Area Equity Atlas

Finally, we also see stark gaps in material hardship. Black and Latinx Bay Area residents are much more likely to experience hardship than their White and Asian American counterparts. Sixty-two percent of Latinx and 76% of Black respondents experienced at least one hardship over the study year as compared to 37% of White and 28% of Asian American respondents.

In many ways, these data portray two Bay Area realities: one White and Asian American that is relatively protected from economic insecurity and serious deprivation; the other Black and Latinx for whom the most common experience is one of economic insecurity and deprivation.

“As Of 2021, more than 570,00 youth in California between the ages of 16-24 were neither in school nor at work (12.5% disconnection rate) - a nearly 20% increase from 2029” -California’s Opportunity Youth
